Dental Crowns and Bridges

At Gawler Dental Clinic, we want our patients to enjoy smiles that look beautiful and function well. When you have a damaged tooth, or if you are missing a tooth, this can impact your appearance and your ability to chew and speak properly. A damaged tooth that isn’t repaired can easily turn into a tooth that needs to be extracted. A missing tooth that isn’t replaced can easily lead to even more tooth loss.

At our Gawler, SA dental surgery, our experienced dentists can talk to you about tooth restorations that look natural and enable your teeth to function properly.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns fit over a damaged tooth, much like a cap fits on your head. In the case of your tooth, a cap will strengthen the tooth structure.

We typically recommend crowns on back molars that have large fillings that have started to fracture. Removing a significant amount of tooth during the filling process weakens it. A dental crown is often the best way to restore the tooth.

Crowns are also used on a tooth that has been treated with a root canal. Because root canal therapy removes the living portion of the tooth root, the remaining structure tends to become brittle. A dental crown gives it the strength to withstand the enormous force that goes along with chewing.

We can also use crowns cosmetically, covering up a tooth that is badly stained, for example, and resistant to teeth whitening.

CEREC Technology

In the past, the entire dental crown process took place over at least two dental appointments. But with CEREC technology, we can make a mould of your tooth and fabricate your crown while you wait. The fabrication process usually takes less than 20 minutes.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a popular option to fill in the space left by adjacent missing teeth. The bridge is attached to two dental crowns on the remaining teeth on either side of the gap.

A dental bridge restores the look and function of your smile, but it also protects your healthy teeth from shifting. When you don’t fill in a gap in your smile with a dental restoration, your remaining teeth tend to drift into the space. This can lead to bite problems, undue wear on your teeth and the possibility of more tooth loss.
