If you or your child knocks out a permanent tooth, it is important to act quickly. The sooner the tooth is treated, the greater the chance of successfully saving it.
If possible, carefully pick up the tooth by the crown (the part you normally see), avoiding touching the root. If the tooth is dirty, gently rinse it with milk and, if possible, place it back into the socket.
If you cannot place the tooth back in the socket, keep it moist by storing it in milk or having the person hold it carefully inside their cheek, if appropriate. Do not store it in water or wrap the tooth in tissue or allow it to dry out.
